In the world of newborn photography, it’s commonly suggested that sessions should take place within the first two weeks of birth. This is often recommended because newborns are typically sleepier and more easily poseable during this time. However, this guideline isn’t a hard and fast rule. I had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful 6-week-old baby, and the results were absolutely stunning.
At six weeks old, babies are more awake and alert, often showcasing their developing personalities. This allowed us to capture some incredibly engaging and expressive photos.
Older newborns can make eye contact, smile, and interact with their surroundings, which can add an extra layer of emotion and connection to the images. Plus an extra week or two of recovering, and settling in, might just make the experience more relaxed and enjoyable for the parents also!
Don’t be discouraged if you’ve missed the typical two-week window for newborn photography. Beautiful, meaningful photos can be captured at any age. Whether your baby is two weeks, six weeks, or even older, each stage offers its own unique opportunities for stunning photography.
